Phase 3: Improve

More from this section

Before you begin

Thank you so much for your willingness to share the gospel with children this summer! Now that you have been practicing the wordless book for so long, it is time to get some help. This phase of preparation consists of meeting with our interns in order to improve upon the things you have been practicing so diligently. You will start with your wordless book but there are other coaching sessions that you will attend in order to prepare for summer ministry. These coaching sessions do not have to be completed in the order listed but we recommend that you tackle one session at a time. Be sure to get started early so that you give yourself as much time as possible to prepare for each session.

Steps to Improve

  1. Schedule a Returning Student Interview
Now that you have attended your first training session it is time to take a little breather. Schedule a returning student interview with our CYIA Coordinator by sending an email to studentassistants@cefsandhills.com.  In the email please include three potential dates and times that you are available.  This is a no stress virtual or in-person meeting.  We use this opportunity to catch up with what God has been doing in your life over the past year.
  2. Wordless Book Coaching Session
Now that you have worked through your wordless book training seminar, you are ready to have a coaching session. These are meetings with one of our student coaches in order to improve your wordless book presentation. Even our most experienced team members schedule coaching sessions because there is always room to improve and we want to be effective witnesses for Christ. This link will take you to a web service that we use to schedule coaching sessions.  A password will be required.  You will be given the password after you complete your first live training session or it can be requested by contacting a scheduling assistant at studentassistants@cefsandhills.com.  Simply follow the directions and provide the necessary information as requested.  You will receive a confirmation email and an email with Zoom details.
  3. Memory Verse Coaching Session
During one of our training sessions, you will be given a list of verses that you will need to memorize for this summer. This list can also be found below. Many of these verses should already seem really familiar because they are your wordless book verses! You have already been practicing with these verses for a while. Go ahead and commit them to memory. The other verses will be the memory verses we are teaching this summer. If we are asking the kids to memorize them, it is important that we have them committed to memory as well. During this coaching session, your leader will listen to you recite the given verses from memory. They are there to encourage you, pray for you, and celebrate with you. 4. Enroll in Summer Materials Course
Before going to camp, we require that everyone complete the appropriate sections of the course corresponding to that year’s summer materials. To enroll in this course, go to the “courses” tab and search the name of the summer material set in the search courses bar (Summer 2024 Course: One Way and I Dare). Enroll in the seminar. We ask that all new students complete the portion of the training course that is applicable to them. If you are a junior missionary, you should complete the missionary story and song demonstrations portion of the course. Do not worry about the Bible Lesson or Counseling Demonstrations. Senior missionaries should complete the Counseling, Bible Lesson, and Song Demonstrations. None of our students have to worry about ordering materials as that will be taken care of by our local director. You should have completed the appropriate section of the course before going to camp.
  5. Lesson Outlines
Each student should outline their respective lessons. Junior Missionaries will outline the missionary story using the lesson text provided to them. Senior Missionaries should outline their Bible lessons using the corresponding passage in the Bible. Below are two examples of what an outline could look like. If you would like help with your outlines, schedule a coaching session with outlines as the subject.
